Media Relations & PR

MCGHealth
For five-plus years, I promoted the adult and children’s hospitals of MCGHealth, the region’s only academic medical center. As media relations manager, I developed relationships with local, regional and national media in order to place feature stories, videos, audio, photo essays, event promotion and more. I worked with reporters/editors on health care and science beats, as well as feature/lifestyle and metro. On a national scale, I’ve worked with PBS, CNN, Southern Living, ABC News and others.

My news releases/media pitches covered a wide range of stories, including:

  • Children
  • Adults
  • Programs and Services
  • Tips/How Tos
  • Events
  • Fund-raising

Georgia Regents University Cancer Center
The GRU Cancer Center is the region’s only cancer research and clinical care center. As its media relations consultant, I worked closely with the cancer center director to write monthly opinion pieces distributed to newspapers throughout Georgia; pitch stories on clinical and research programs; and write other articles and marketing collateral.

Walton Foundation for Independence
The Walton Foundation for Independence is a nonprofit foundation that raises funds for and presents adaptive sports and camps for persons with disabilities in the CSRA. I worked with the foundation on a consultant basis  to write news releases, opeds and more, and to secure positive media coverage focusing on its programs, services and clients.

Walton Rehabilitation Health System
As the area’s only rehabilitation health system, Walton offers a service to meet nearly every need for a person going through rehab. During my time at Walton, I pitched stories on physical, occupational and speech therapy; stroke; brain injury; spinal cord injury; psychological services; unique services such as aquatic therapy; housing options; employment and other return-to-life services; support groups; fundraising events; and more.

Event Planning
As NICU Baby Come Back Party Chair for the Red Wagon Society, a fund-raising/volunteer organization supporting MCGHealth Children’s Medical Center, I organized the Baby Come Back event, a fall festival that welcomed back 600-plus parents and children who were treated in the CMC’s NICU over the past three years. The event garnered positive media coverage, developed new community partners and renewed positive relationships with families throughout Georgia and South Carolina.
